Mission
We believe that the characterization of religion as inherently
conservative, and the subsequent portrayal of
social debates as
disagreements between the religious and the irreligious undermine faith in
religious institutions and the ideal of religious diversity.
Our mission is to
inform the public of the diversity of religious
opinion on social issues where it is not widely recognized by providing a
voice and a forum for
religious organizations,
congregations and clergy
who support
equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender people;
reproductive freedom;
and the separation of church and state.
Incorporation and Tax Status
The Interfaith Working Group (IWG) is a Pennsylvania Corporation with a budget
under $5,000, and an exempt status under section 501(a) of the Internal
Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501(c)(3),
of the type described in sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).
IWG continues to incur expenses hosting this website and domain name, but we
have shifted focus to our TransFaith
projects. You
can support our continuing efforts to speak to the religious diversity and justice
concerns of the LGBT community by donating to our work.
