March 15, 2004 Mobridge Tribune 111 West 3rd Street Mobridge, SD 57601 Dear Editors: We were astounded by the March 11 letter titled “Time for us to get back to godly values,” as we did not realize it was possible to fit every known anti-gay stereotype and related religious and historical fiction into a single letter. We also did not realize that any newspaper would publish such a letter if it were written. There are congregations throughout the country in a wide range of religious traditions that welcome and affirm gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) people and their families just as they are, and we strongly encourage anyone who believes that same-gender relationships are inherently destructive or anti-religious to see for themselves that such congregations are healthy and thriving communities of faith. Sincerely, Barbara Lamond Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
