March 15, 2004 Danville Advocate Messenger 330 S. 4th St. Danville, KY 40422 Dear Editors: We were confused by the March 8 letter from Raymond Taylor, n which he speaks of “scriptural references to homosexuality” and the “premise that our forefathers intended for this country.” We are not sure exactly what references he means, since there is a great deal of debate about whether the many versions and translations of the Christian Bible say anything about sexual orientation, and those various Bibles are not the only scriptures recognized by the many faith traditions in this country. Furthermore, as far as we know, the intended premise for this country, specified in the Constitution, includes free speech, free exercise of religion, free association, and equal protection of the laws, all of which support the right of people to marry whomever they choose, to call their relationships whatever they choose, and to have those relationships recognized and protected by the government.
